Premier's Inaugural Graduate Training Program Begins

Kas Oganowski, MD

July 28, 2008

By Kas Oganowski, MD, Associate Director, Graduate Training Program

After two years of planning, Premier’s Emergency Medicine Graduate Training Program officially began July 1st. The inaugural class is made up of four physicians. Roy Dubash, MD, recently completed his residency at the East Kentucky Family Practice Residency in Hazard, Kentucky. Roy hopes to work in a rural setting when he completes our program. He will always be remembered as the first physician accepted into the GTP.

David Moore, MD, is a graduate of the Tuscaloosa Family Practice Residency in Alabama. Since he completed that program in 2004, he has been in the Air Force. Dr. Moore has had experience working in a field hospital in Iraq where he was exposed to all types of trauma. Prior to medical school, David worked in an I.C.U. as an RN.

Stephen Jubinski, MD, was also in the Air Force. In fact, he served for 20 years prior to going to medical school. Steve completed his residency in Family Practice at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis. He has decided to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine and has chosen our program to help achieve that goal. During his time in the Air Force, Steve was one of the pilots for Air Force One.

Jerry Voit, MD, completed his residency at the Family Practice Program at Western Reserve Care System in Youngstown, Ohio in June. He was chief resident during this past year. Jerry feels that combining what he has learned up to this point, along with what our program has to offer, will enable him to practice Emergency Medicine.

These four physicians come highly recommended. They come from different backgrounds, and their career paths certainly have been different. What they all share is the desire to be emergency physicians.

The next year will be very busy for these doctors. They will spend 35-40 hours per week working along side our doctors at St. Rita’s Medical Center and Marion General Hospital. Bill Tucker, MD, and Paul Culler, MD, are both excited about being a part of the Graduate Training Program. Mondays will be spent at the corporate office in didactic sessions. Jerry Tasset has put together a comprehensive curriculum that will include a complete review of Tintinalli’s textbook of Emergency Medicine, case reviews, participation in our skills course, attendance at the Ohio ACEP board review course, and an ultrasound course. The goal of this program is that the physicians will acquire the knowledge and skills to care for any patient presenting to an Emergency Department. Hopefully, the doctors completing the program will continue their careers with Premier.

A tremendous amount of time and effort has gone into the development of the Graduate Training Program. Almost every department in the corporate office was involved in some way in making this program a reality. Those involved are committed to its success. Plans for the future include adding more clinical sites and increasing the number of doctors participating. In fact, there is already a plan to add St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV, next year.

The future looks bright. There have been at least 25 inquiries about the class starting in July, 2009, and 9 physicians asking about the class starting July, 2010!
