December 30, 2007 – Premier Health Care Services, Inc. appoints Steve Broughton as Chief Operations Officer (COO).
The economic climate in 2009 brought many challenges and great uncertainty. Our organization has and will continue to adapt and change to ensure continued success. Below is a summary of our progress and plans in two key operational areas and our general strategy with regards to navigating non-essential expenses in these difficult economic times.
The calendar year 2009 closed with record numbers in the recruiting arena. Hats off to Kas Oganowski, MD, and his team for signing 46 new physicians and 31 mid-level providers! The most physicians signed in any year prior to 2009 was 37. Additional resource allocation, new strategies, determination, and hard work from the recruiters and Medical Directors produced this level of success.
However, someone is reading this article and thinking, “Hey, we haven’t seen a new provider at my site!” That is true for some sites since we witnessed more success at certain facilities than others. Trust me, Dr. Oganowski and his staff know who you are, and they are working diligently to recruit to sites that still have needs.
One issue that arose from our recruiting success is that a few providers now find they can’t secure all the hours they desire. While the winter months find our facilities better staffed than at vacation time, Nancy Johnson in scheduling can find an extra shift for you if you are willing to try a new site. Currently, we have shifts available in Ohio at Highland, Wayne (brand new ED opening March 8th), St. Rita’s, and Battle Creek in Michigan. These sites are all great places to work with wonderful staffs in place.
Last, we relaunched our clinician referral program. Over the last five years, referrals have been our best source of candidates, outpacing advertising, direct mail, and conferences. It’s a fact our providers are our best form of advertisement, and your recommendations and referrals are paramount in a prospect’s mind when selecting a place to work. Check out the Premier Intranet (www.phcsday.com) for more information about the program, and learn how you can earn a chance at cash and prizes for referring a peer or friend to work at Premier.
In 2009, the organization worked to solidify clinical operations and replenish our provider ranks through increased recruiting efforts. To maximize and remain focused on these efforts, Premier took a very low key approach with regards to business development and sales in 2009. Premier did not add any new Emergency Medicine or Hospitalist business in 2009. However, we now feel poised to grow in a selective manner that meshes with our staffing levels and expectations for operational excellence and profitability.
