October 30, 2008– Premier Physician Michael Worobiec, MD, (Marion General Hospital) wins CERP Award.

How one physician’s kindness and going “above and beyond” makes for a great workplace and outstanding customer service.

It is not often that you get to meet an extraordinary person who is able to touch and affect so many lives on a day-to-day basis. And there are too many dates or incidents to mention just one example of Dr. Michael Worobiec’s kindness and stewardship to co-workers and the community. The following are just a few examples of his kindness.

Recently, there was a child in the Emergency Department who lost his tooth, and his mother had no money to put under her child’s pillow from the “tooth fairy,” so Dr. Worobiec gave the mother money and, in essence, became the tooth fairy.

Michael and his wife Michele have, over the past several years, donated money to a local family to assist them in paying for a headstone for the grave of a young child that died of cancer. Additionally, the Worobiec’s generously donate each year to the ED’s adoptive Christmas families—recently buying bicycles for several children. Not long ago one of our ED nurses lost a child to a tragic accident, and the Worobiec’s came to their aid with financial and emotional assistance.

Dr. Worobiec is compassionate, caring, and always giving of himself to others—he truly cares about people, not just patients but co-workers as well. I am a personal friend of his and proud to be. He is also a loving husband to his wife Michele and a wonderful father to his sons—Owen, age 4, and his newly adopted son Thomas, age 6 months. There are truly too many wonderful things to list on paper, and I am certain that there are many other great things he has done that I am not aware of. He is a great asset to Premier and to Marion General Hospital.

CERP – the Clinical Excellence Recognition Program – highlights Premier Health Care Services health care professionals (Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners) who have been recognized as having provided excellent clinical care in a specific Emergency Department encounter. Award winners are recognized in the Premier Perspective Newsletter, and a letter acknowledging the award is sent to the CEO, Chief of the Medical Staff, ED Medical Director, and ED Nurse Manager of the facility in which the award winner works the most ED shifts. Nominations for this award may be submitted by anyone, and the forms can be found on the Premier Intranet and submitted to your Premier ED Medical Director. Nominations are taken year-round, and winners are selected by a committee composed of the Chief Development Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and the Chair of the Clinical Services Committee. As a reward, each CERP winner receives a $100 gas card, and an annual winner will be chosen from the winners for a grand prize of $1000.00 travel voucher. In addition, the picture of the practitioner will be posted on a Premier Health Care Services Clinical Excellence Wall of Fame in the Premier corporate offices.
