Premier Health Care Services Physician Jana Banks, MD, wins 2008 Overall CERP Award

On July 2, 2008, at about 4:45 in the afternoon, 59-year-old Ada Pomiamowski was out for a ride on her motorcycle. As Ada accelerated from an intersection, she lost control of her motorcycle, crashed, and was thrown a few feet off of her bike. Fortunately, Ada had been wearing a helmet and never lost consciousness, never had blurred vision, and had no pain other than her legs and thumb. She was even able to stand up on her own; however, when she did so, she had significant pain in her legs and was unable to walk at the accident scene.
Ada arrived at the Emergency Room at Fayette County Memorial Hospital via EMS on a backboard with a C-collar, and Dr. Jana Banks was put in charge of her care. Ada was fully conscious when she arrived and only complained of pain in the left knee, lower right leg, and right thumb. She had also sustained a lip laceration. She had full range of motion of all joints in the right leg.
Her diagnosis was a fracture of the left fibula and a non-displaced fracture of the right fibula, as well as an acute left knee ligamentous injury and right thumb ligamentous injury. Ada requested a transfer to a Dayton-area for Orthopedic surgery, which Dr. Banks arranged. While she was waiting, Dr. Banks kept Ada comfortable, and her family was continually updated. Her family was extremely pleased with the care and compassion Ada received from the ED staff at Fayette County Memorial Hospital, particularly from Dr. Banks. Her husband even wrote an article for the paper thanking Dr. Banks for her treatment of his wife, specifically the kind, compassionate, and comprehensive care his wife received. “Fayette County Memorial Hospital did more for my wife in four hours than a Dayton-area hospital did in 48 hours. An excellent staff, a competent doctor, accurate diagnosis of injuries, prompt care, and pain management summarizes our experience in the Emergency Department. Again we say thank you and God bless you!”
As a CERP nominee, Jana will receive a $100 gas card, and as the 2008 overall winner, Jana will receive the grand prize $1000 travel voucher.
