Look Who's Recruiting!

October 29, 2009

John Lyman ImageIn his 12 years at Premier Health Care Services, John Lyman, MD, has worn many hats, serving as Chief Clinical Officer, board member, and interim medical director, as well as committee member for Premier’s retention, diversity, and newsletter committees, and even “poster-physician” on numerous Premier marketing pieces.

In recent months Dr. Lyman has added a new role as Director of Residency Relations. In this capacity, he will serve as a liaison between Premier and the Emergency Medicine residency programs. This role will be multi-dimensional and will focus primarily on utilizing Premier’s internal resources to service EM programs in several areas, such as education, providing a source for research statistics, and providing opportunities for clinical rotations.

“With a patient volume of nearly 1.5 million a year, Premier could be a tremendous resource for research statistics,” said Dr. Lyman. “In addition, we can provide educational services in both clinical and management areas, as well as offer several excellent sites for rotations. “In this way, we are not only assisting the residents, we’re serving the specialty,” he explains.

One of the most challenging aspects will be coordinating the vastness of the Premier resources with the needs of the residency programs. This process might include examples as diverse as providing data on a very specific clinical issue, or perhaps finding the ideal Premier physician for a presentation on topics that range from wilderness medicine to contract negotiation.

“In some ways, the needs and wants of residents have not really changed, but we now see very new demands in areas such as documentation, accountability, and technology, “ Dr. Lyman also noted that he welcomes the participation of the entire Premier team and encourages interested Premier physicians to contact him with their areas of expertise and interest.

John Lyman ImageAs Director of Residency Relations, Dr. Lyman will also contribute to the resident recruiting process by participating in activities, such as dinners, exhibits, and journal clubs, as well as assist the recruiting team in planning and implementing in marketing and sourcing.

According to Senior Recruiting Representative Kim Rooney, it is an ideal match. “After many years of participating unofficially, it’s great to have Dr Lyman with recruiting in an official capacity. His vast experience and ties with the EM community are an invaluable asset,” she states, noting his experience in a variety of business models, faculty roles, and professional organizations.

Director of Recruiting, Kas Oganowski, MD, agrees. “John Lyman was the perfect choice for this role. He has an excellent reputation and is widely respected by the leaders in the industry, including the academic sector. I am extremely excited about his involvement, and we are already seeing the fruits of his efforts.”

Dr. Lyman also notes that providing services to Emergency Medicine residencies is beneficial to Premier. “By building strong relationships with the EM residencies we’re building the future of Premier.”
