Charleston Area Medical Center is the flagship of the Camcare Health System. A non-profit, 919 bed, regional referral center with more than 4,000 employees, CAMC has a distinct commitment to the people of southern West Virginia.
As West Virginias premiere medical teaching facility, CAMC prepares a variety of health care professionals to care for West Virginians. On any given day, CAMC hosts more than 500 students in programs leading to degrees or certifications in health professions.
In 2007, an Osteopathic Emergency Medicine residency program joined the roster of established graduate medical education programs within the CAMC Health System. The system includes both Osteopathic and Allopathic residency programs.
CAMC is home for the nations fourth largest Heart Center; one of two kidney transplant centers in the state; and one of the nations busiest Level I Trauma Centers. CAMCs services are provided at three distinct locations, the General Division, Memorial Division and the Women and Childrens Hospital.
All major specialties and subspecialties are represented at this tertiary care center, which was named among U.S. News & World Reports 2006 Americas Best Hospitals.
